Chicago native Andrew Bird is going eco-friendly for
his Spring tour. A one man act that seems to be
anything but this time around, Bird will be
accompanied on the road with Martin Dosh on drums
and percussion as well as Jeremy Ylvisaker for each
engagement. The tour will also see a supporting cast
of Cold War Kids, Tokyo Police Club, and office
adored Elvis Perkins.
But what makes this tour interesting is Bird is
working with the non-profit organization Reverb to
make the event eco-friendly. How? Well buy touring
in a bus that runs on vegetable oil. No, it’s not
the Delorean and Doc isn’t the driver. But it
doesn’t stop on the road – each show will have a
green room filled with supplies from Stonyfield Farm
and environmentally friendly merchandise from Native
Energy.
In other Andrew Bird news, Spring will see the
release of Armchair Apocrypha. The album is due out
on March 19th from Fat Possum Records and will be
his 7th release (10th depending on how you look at
his history of such with Live cuts and EP efforts).
As previously reported, the artist locked himself up
in the fall thru the winter to write and compose the
twelve track effort. Interestingly enough, this came
just after his work with Martin Dosh on his album
The Lost Take. We await to see if the turn in sound
affected Bird in any way going into Armchair. But we
put our imaginary money on a dark turn for the
better.

The crazy troupe of OK Go continue their oddball
video synchronicity with the latest version of ‘Do

Fantastically humorous as it is impossible to not
stare at.
Canadian duo Junior Boys have quite an act to
follow after their 2006 breakout year. But before
they burry themselves in the studio, they’ll be paid
homage by some of best unheard techno/electronic
DJ’s out there in the form of The Dead Horse EP – a
remix of sorts from the Junior Boys catalogue. The
artists include Carl Graik and Kode 9 to name a few.

Who needs Hi-Fi? It’s totally overrated. So we give
you the duo Lo-Fi-Fnk’s video ‘Wake Up’ which seems
like a posse cred effort with an 80’s twist thanks
to the color schemes and hand gestures. You can
check out the boys on tour in March as they drum up
support from street-cred labels at this years SXSW
and beyond. As with some indie bands – overbooking
is almost seen as a challenge as the band has a
Philadelphia and New York City show on the same day.

My Morning Jacket is looking to make up for
missed opportunity from their youth. Most of us
would simply drink our faces off or build a fort.
But this is MMJ we’re talking about; the
reincarnation of ballad acid rock and nothing would
be better than revisiting their Enchantment Under
The Sea dance days. That’s right, the groups is
holding a two day prom – yes PROM – at the 40 Watt
Club in Athens, Georgia on March 6th and 7th. A
posting on the bands website of the planned event
reads like so:
"For all of you who missed your prom back in 1956 or
1986 or 2006 for that matter, we will be hosting the
1st annual MMJ 2 night prom, March 6th and 7th, at
the fabulous, prom-ready, 40 Watt Club in Athens!
The first time we walked thru those hallowed 40 Watt
doors we said to ourselves, 'this place looks
perfect for a prom!' And now the dream will be a
reality. The theme is a futuristic/retro under the
sea vibe - costumes (tuxes, suits, robots, mermaid
and lobster costumes, anything prom/ocean related)
are not only encouraged - they are MANDATORY!!! NO
ONE will be admitted without proper attire!** There
will be cake, balloons, fishnets, classic cars,
chaperones, spankings, and a whole lotta shakin goin
on - 2007 style upin this bitch ya'll. Come prepared
to dance the night away, and make up for all the
proms you missed...

New York trio Blond Redhead is ready to release
their new album 23 on April 10th. Chris Coady of TV
on the Radio and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s fame helped
produce 23 but the album also got the expert co-mix
treatment from Mars Volta and Franz Ferdinand famed
Rich Costey. As if that wasn’t enough cabinet
members to get your vote, Alan Moulder (of Smashing
Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails eminence) rounded out
the mixing. But a resume only goes so far with who
you work with. What about the sound? Blonde Redhead
has been around since the 90’s and the sound is true
post grunge rock at its finest: guitar and
percussion driven by brothers Amedeo and Simone Pace
rounded out with Kazu Makino on vocals and guitar.
You can check out the title track ‘23’ by clicking
below.
The band is also prepped to catch press at this
years SXSW in Texas to prove their underground
grade. But of course, we can’t all get to Austin for
the ‘it’ festival this year so check out local dates

Not too many homespun albums see the light of day
and even fewer percentages garner a following. But
Winterpill’s 2005 self titled debut did just that.
But the band was hungry for a follow up with proper
studio time to see what would come about. The end
result is the newest effort The Light Divides – a
slick ensemble of pop mood music. Light Divides is
due out February 27th from Signature Rercords. You

In a move that seems more split personality than
musicians, Avey Tare & Kria Brekkan are readying a
new album Pullhair Rubeye for release on April 24th.
Don’t know them? It’s okay, because in a former
life, Avey Tare was Dave Portner of Animal
Collective. Kria Brekkan was Kristin Valtysdottir
formerly of the band Mum. Of course, what makes this
even more bizarre as far as name changes go is that
the two are recently married.
The debut effort from the newlyweds is an eight
track ensemble recorded in Brooklyn and upstate New
York is mix of fun yet serious songs and often
echange blows of vocals and other world tones. You
can check out the first track off the album ‘Sis
Around The Sandmill’ for yourself and see what you
think.
Choice Sounds:
Avey Tare & Kria Brekkan ‘Sis Around The Sandmill’
Vegans unite! Your master of witty ways to break
the male heart and ego is returning. Tori Amos has
announced that her much awaited follow American Doll
Posse will hit store shelves on May 1st from Epic.
The self produced effort is as tight lipped as the
pig suckling from the teat (yes, that is a reference
to her 1996 album insert). But we do know that it
was recorded and laid down in Cornwall, England. Let
the GRL power hate mail peruse.
The Magic Numbers have released ‘This Is A Song’
this week; a single on CD and 7” that includes
b-side ‘Oh You Might As Well Live In My Head Now
(The Jump Rope Song) while the record contains
‘Steal Me A Dream’ and ‘Take Me Out’; the later of
which is a live BBC cut. Of course you want to try
and buy – don’t you, cheap-o! Well, we’ve got you
covered with a live stream of the band performing
‘This Is A Song’ at last years Eden Sessions.
It was only a matter of time that the UK pop-tart
Lily Allen moved on from her music career and
expanded her repertoire. Especially, when she’s so
trend setting with her mistaken table setting
designer wear. But that’s not stopping her from
pursing another dream. Her new clothing line
entitled Lily Loves will debut on May 9th in the
fashion chain New Look. The set will include six
dresses, accessories, and shoes according to
sources.
Here’s hoping she doesn’t sell them at her shows.
But they probably will go for hundreds at a place
like Coachella Festival – where she’s expected to
bring the screaming teens and Tim Gunn to their
preverbal knees.

Will 2007 be the year of the reunions? If Jesus
and Mary Chain have anything to say about it –
maybe. The recent tour together – but not admitting
studio work together nineties troupe has added two
off gigs at this years Summercase Festival in Spain.
The band has been absent of one another since their
final show way back in 1998 that made Pete Doherty
look sober. But, the band seems to be taking the
tour-is-counseling approach as they inch ever closer
to closing a potential studio gig that will see them
record their first album in a decade. Depending on
these final shows in Barcelona, J&MC could be one
again. We’ll keep our eye on the prize if they keep
their nose from the rock.
Spring is just around the corner and that means
the Summer Festival circuit is gearing up to flex
its powerhouse musical muscles once again. What
better way to kick it off than Seattle’s Sasquatch!
Music Festival. The two day – three stage event will
get the evolved upgrade this year over Memorial Day
Weekend at the Gorge Amphitheatre by going Carbon
Neutral in their 6th annual stint. What’s Carbon
Neutral? Well, its being CO2 conscious of course but
in this case, the festival is purchasing carbon
credits thru Sustainable Energy Partners. Carbon
credits transfer like this: every ton of carbon
credits equals one ton of reforestation
sequestration. So, you can hug your trees and pee on
them too!
Enough politico – you care about music more or you
wouldn’t be here. This years fest looks to continue
the insanely talented indie lineup with a who’s-who
of the music bubble scene including the likes of The
Arcade Fire, Beastie Boys, Interpol put pushing the
underground envelope with acts like MIA and The
Thermals.
Tickets go on sale Saturday March 3rd at 10am via
Ticketmaster. Tickets are $55 per day but you can
also get a 2 day pass for $500 aptly titled the
Solid Gold Superticket that includes camping and
special VIP treatment. Not enough, how about the
Intergalactic Auction Pack; which all net proceeds
go to The Vera Project (a music fund for youth in
Seattle) that allows the lucky ticket holder all the
fun of the Solid Gold but also a Cliffhouse room at
the Cave B Inn, wine, and souvenir wine glasses. Go
get snooty!

From solo to solid, Dieter Sermeus of The Go Find
knows his way around music. His inaugural album,
Miami, was only a foundation for his upcoming second
effort, Stars On The Wall – a quintet
project. Like most solo artists, he decided to take
his live act to the studio – which included a much
more perfected pop sound than he attained on his
own. This time around, the songs are much less
electronica based and now good hearted dance numbers
with rhythm, hooks, and layered guitars. You can

Who the hell would have picked Sweden as the new

talent grows off of six foot blonds there like
crazy. Enter: Mando Diao – who are ready to release

Canadian label Nettwork has signed on post punk
Norse group/duo Datarock. The label also went on to
state that they will release the bands debut
Datarock Datarock in May but no further info has
been confirmed as of yet. The groups original
release was off their own label back in 2005 called
Young Aspiring Professionals.
All Tomorrow’s Parties is back and they aren’t
looking. Wait. Their Don’t Look Back series is back.
Whatever. The point is, the slick live production
that has the artists perform an album live in its
entirety is once again taking off for its 2007
season. On board is Sonic Youth who will play their
1988 Daydream Nation. The show, scheduled for August
31st is billed at London’s Roadhouse.

I avoided business school simply because of the
term ‘mergers and acquisitions’. But somehow I
should have known it would come back to haunt me.
Form of? The labels Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar
have formed a collaboration with Misra Records to
create a new label Dead Oceans.
Who gives a shit? Well you should because of the
powerhouse the plan to release as their inaugural
offerings. One of the highlights has to be Iran,
which consists of TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone.
Other signed aboard are Dirtly Projectors,
Evangelicals, and Bishop Allen.
If you’ll recall from our previous story, Misra
Records and Absolutely Kosher formed a business
partnership about a month ago as well.
Playing like a bad Aqua Force animated special is
the new video from Peter, Bjorn & John entitled
‘Young Folks’ from their recent release Writers
Block. It even has a nice Partridge moment. But, if
you aren’t into freakishly cheesy animation, then
you can download the entire song as well below.
Politically charged and guitar backed rock trio
The Thermals are bringing their post grunge graces
on the road. If it sounds like we swing from the
preverbal sacs of the band, well its true (hell,
just read our review of their inaugural effort The
Body The Blood The Machine). You could do no better
for yourself than to catch the people behind one of
the best albums of 2006 live. And if you can get
over lead singer Hutch Harris‘s vocal oddity, then
you are one step closer to greatness in our opinion.

The Shins played a slick but brief show at
Chicago’s Congress Theatre a few nights back –
focusing mostly on new material but always ready to
impress the Zach Braff girlclub of America with old
