Odd Nosdam lives up to his name. The artist well
known for his ability to utilize the finite
differences of 8-track and Dictaphone audio nuances
for all his songs is back at it again with the late
summer release of Level Live Wires on Anticon.
The follow up to 2005’s Burner is said to be
less dark than its predecessor and instead focuses
on life’s little nuances. TV on the Radio’s Tunde
Adebimpe even showed up in the studio and aided on
the track ‘The Kill Tone Two’ along side Why’s Yoni
Wolf. The album is set to hit stores in August.
Track Listing:

02 Kill Tone
03 We Dead
04 Freakout 3
05 Fat Hooks
06 Blast
07 The Kill Tone Two
08 Burner
09 Up In Flames
T-Pain may have the ‘Buy U A Drank’ song blazing
the urban charts but it’s Kanye West who’s getting
the last round. The song, which is not off the
upcoming Epiphany album due out June 5th, was
remixed here by Kanye West. Full of shout outs to
Russel Simmons and other such folk, ‘Drank’ is a dry
well of ‘ho-hum hip-hop’. But what R&B isn’t these
days, right? It helps you forget that he ever made a
song called ‘What’s Yo Myspace’ and ‘Send Me An
E-Mail’. We’re still waiting forever for the much
rumored ‘Blog-Blog Byatch’.

For those of you who moved to Elliot Smith from your
post-angst depression mourning of Kurt Cobain; its
all about you these days. Not only is this your
summer (so that means get out of the house and turn
on some damn lights you depressed case) after the
recent double album New Moon collection of Elliot
Smith alt-works. But now you are getting a photo
scrapbook of the late artist. Lucky you. The 200
page turner offers up clips from Autumn De Wilde –
who shot photos of Smith for 2000’s Figure 8 album.
For those who can handle the duality of pictures and
words, the book will also contain interviews with
Smith’s sister and other players of the music
industry speaking of his influence including Ben Gibbard and Nada Surf’s Matthew Caws.
And if you are blind and have problems forming
sentences left to right – your in luck because the
book will also include a five song CD that will
feature live unreleased sessions at the Largo Club
in L.A.
Obvious all pokes at people with a loss of any
senses and or true attachment to said artist are
meant for personal enjoyment and should not be taken
personally – unless you need something to sulk
about. Which at any rate, if you’re an Elliot Smith
fan, you’re in luck!

Nothing can get you more pepped up like a riotous
sampling of The Go! Team’s music. Case in point is
the new track ‘Grip It Like a Vice’ off the bands
upcoming as-of-yet-untitled release which has its
signature beats and chants. Kinda hope the rest of
the album is less repeating and a step forward from
their previous effort Thunder, Lightning, Strike –
as this track sounds too much like the 2005 release.
As previously reported, the band is still at work to
lay down the final tracks parts of the whole for a
UK release of September 10th. As of time of print –
no US distribution has been finalized. Check out our
previous story for more info.
The Liverpool quartet known as Ladytron to all
the rabid electronica fans out there and just
monochromatic snazzy dressers to the rest are ready
to hit the road for an intimate set of dates for
their DJ sets. Make sure to bring your Bulgarian to
English book however or you’ll sound like ’99 Daft
Balloons’ all over again.
It has been rumored that the band is well underway
in the studio for their follow-up to 2005’s Witching
Hour. We’ll keep you posted.

Who wants to work on remixing N*E*R*D and Britney
Spears forever? Obviously not French duo Justice as
they are prepping their June release of †. Yes, that
is a cross. And no it’s not a French Joan of Arc
thing. And yes this is getting us off track. The
point: check out the stream of DVNO – the newest
track off the sybmoled album. After that peruse
below for the video of D.A.N.C.E. we posted a few
weeks back.
In one of the worst kept secrets of the industry,
mastermind producer Rick Ruben has made the move to
Columbia Records. As previously reported, Rubin was
courted by Columbia and his imprint American
Recordings as part of an attempt to beef up their
music lineup. Ruben is well known in the industry as
a pioneer of sorts that often times pushes artists
into new directions with sound and production. Some
of his more noteworthy clients have been Beastie
Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Dixie
Chicks, Metallica, and many more. The contract also
has flexibility for Ruben to work with other labels’
artists as he has in the past with acts like Linkin
Park and the aforementioned Metallica.
Earlier this year we reported that Ruben had been
courted by Columbia with a Co-Chairman position.
Ruben is currently working with U2, Metallica and
the final records of Johnny Cash for release
sometime in 2007.
Excitebike or Bright Lite influence may be
debateable, but what’s not is Fujiya & Miyagi’s
recent thrust into the indie spotlight. Check out
the new video release of ‘Ankle Injuries’ and take
in their disco fusion album Transparent Things. And
yes, he really does those hand motions live.
Ever since Captiol began pimping out its lineup like
a Rachel Phelps did the Indians into the penal
league status, many of acts have been up in the air
as to where they may land. Case in point: The Magic
Numbers – who have been awaiting a US release date
for several months now. The album Those the Brokes
saw a UK release late last year but has yet to find
a label to call home stateside, despite its
originally slated February release. – unitl now.
Astarlworks will be release the album on July 17th
locally to appease the ravish fans (and probably the
band as well). Check out the video (now several
months old) for the upcoming song ‘Take a Chance’.
Well … upcoming in North American anyway.
I love workhorses. These five plus yearly
silences some artists go into in between albums is
sillier than the pitch for the Late Late Show with
Craig Ferguson. So, leave it to one of our favorite
British duos, the Basement Jaxx, to steer the ship
to healthier waters. We’ve gotten word that the band
recently logged in some studio time in New York
working on new tracks for the as of yet confirmed or
titled album. The would-be follow up to last years
Crazy Itch Radio is said to feature Yoko Ono, Lil
Louis and Kudo and a few others and possibly hark
back to the more ethnic Latin flavor of past
efforts. Cha-cha-ching!
Any guy who has to listen to their significant other
ramble on about seemingly nothingness and often
envision themselves preferring root canal over a
conversation about who Harrison Ford is dating take
note: The Bee’s have your instructional video to
cope. ‘Listening Man’ is the bands new song off of
the upcoming Octopus album (due May 22nd) in which
the main character finds himself thinking about
anything but what his girl is talking about in the
background. Hysterical and often times
side-splitting (if you’ve been there), ‘Listening
Man’ teaches you the best way to shut em’ up is to
lay one on them.
Continuing on with our love of the ‘workhorse’
(see previous Basement Jaxx story), we have Ted Leo
and The Pharmacists – possibly self medicated on
speed. The band recently announced a string of dates
in Europe but today added some post script love in
the states when they hightail it back to union
shores in August for Lollapalooza and a handful of
American venues.

Ready to make his impression on the US, Cary
Brothers launched his Summer tour last night in

While you’re out hitting the beach or hiding in your

like the aforementioned Schuba’s in Chicago (which
he’ll be back again for in July) and Austin’s
