My Morning Jacket Band Tribute; Prep Live DVD/CD

Dream state makers My Morning Jacket have reportedly
laid down a cover track for a Band Tribute Album due
out in January 2007. 'It Makes No Difference'
was hand picked out of the Band's large catalogue -
one that includes many band favorites as they have
admired their work. In an interview with
Billboard, MMJ drummer Patrick Hallahan stated:
"Picking a song from their catalog was like
looking at your group of close friends and deciding
which one is 'the closest'. You find that they're
all 'the closest' in their own relative way. We hold
that song in the utmost reverence. It's not only one
of the saddest love songs ever written, but more
importantly highlights the beauty of Rick Danko. His
delivery on that song is one of the first reasons I
fell in love with the Band in the first place."
It is also rumored that Pearl Jam front man Eddie
Vedder will be featured on the track. The
album itself is reported to have covers by Jack
Johnson, Death Cab For Cutie, Gomez, and many more -
but not confirmed.
MMJ is also to release a Live DVD and album in
the fall. The double disc album is due
September 26th and the DVD on October 31st which
will be screen at select US movie theatres and is
entitled Okonokos. |

Pixies Say 'No' To New Album

It's just one of those things we've never
understood. Was it Frank Black's big head -
and we don't mean visually. Was it Kim's
stubborn attitude? Regardless, the band has
confirmed that they will never step foot into the
studio together to lay down a Pixies album, but say
they will continue to tour as a group. In an
interview with Uncut, Black said in regards to
bassist Kim Deal:"Now if we're on tour together,
we hang out, we hug. We have some good
conversations, I suppose."
And while the family may not be perfect, they
will continue to move along in the never ending
farewell tour they've created for themselves.

Lemonheads New Album Date; Info
It's been a long time since we felt the Lemonheads;
10 years to be exact. Since lead Evan Dando jumped
shipped and went solo, the idea had been on hiatus.
And while we've known for some time they were back
in the studio to lay down a new album, info was
scarce. No longer. On September 25th, the
lemonheads will release their as-of-yet first studio
album since 'Car Button Cloth' in 1996.
It's A Shame It Took So Long:
01 Black Gown
02 Become The Enemy
03 Pittsburgh
04 Let's Just Laugh
05 Poughkeepsie
06 Rule of Three
07 No Backbone
08 Baby's Home
09 In Passing
10 Steve's Boy
11 December
It's also been reported that the first single,
'Become the Enemy' will drop a week earlier on
September 18th. Although the band will not be
the same makup of the old aside from Dando, the
sound is in good hands. Drummer Bill Stevenson
and bassist Karl Alvarez were both formally with
All, a very similar if not harder sound.

Broken Social Scene Take Break

Call it just exhaustion or peace of mind.
Broken Social Scene will finish up their planned
tour with a select few locations added but call it
quits for the time being. The band also has no
plans to return to the studio any time soon.
Speaking with Billboard, front man Kevin Drew said:
"The last few years have been hard. Things kept
getting bigger and changing. But we've had an
incredible, incredible, incredible run. It's
something that can't be taken for granted. If we
kept going [without a break], we'd be taking it for
granted. Next time, we'd be doing college tours for
money. That sucks the music out of you. Next thing
you know, you're trying to get teenagers to buy your
albums."
You can however catch the act on Feist's upcoming
remix album in which they lend their expertise on
some select tracks. |

mistaken) has signed a deal with Vagrant records.

effort will be Crisis - due to hit store shelves on
August 22nd. The self described post-hardcore
group from Canada will be on the remaining dates of

Tom
Waits Is Back; Tour
Tom Waits - the creator of Jersey Girl (later
covered by Springsteen), musical composer for over a
dozen flicks including The Fisher King and Bram
Stoker's Dracula, and outspoken hater of bands who
sell out their tracks for commercial use is back on
tour and in the spotlight. It's been a long
time since we've had the chance to see the man
responsible for classic tunes from the Eagles,
Ramones, Tori Amos, and even Rod Stewart live;
1999's Get Behind The Mule Tour was the last we saw
of him across the US outside the spotty 2004 Real
Gone Tour. While most artists tour to support
a new album, Waits is touring just for his love of
the road. Check him out in your local venue:
Tour Variations
08-01 Tabernacle - Atlanta, GA
08-02 Thomas Wolfe Auditorium - Asheville, NC
08-04 Orpheum Theatre - Memphis, TN
08-05 Ryman Auditorium - Nashville, TN

DJ
Shadow Spins New Ground With Latest

It's always great to hear musicians taking a stance
on issues affecting the world. Of course, we just
never expected it from the likes of DJ Shadow and
his crew. His upcoming release, The Outsider

Gnarls
Barkley Add Tour Dates

Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse, collectively better known
as Gnarls Barkley, have finally added a few more
dates to their sparse tour schedule. With
'Crazy' becoming the summer theme song for most
countries around the world, it's amazing that the
tour has yet to expand beyond a handful of dates.
If you haven't been fortunate enough to catch their
rather dramatically over-the-top live act yet,
you're missing out on a unique and great experience.
Just a Tour:
08-02 First Avenue - Minneapolis, MN
08-07 State Theatre - Detroit, MI
08-11 Avalon - Boston, MA
08-12 Electric Factory - Philadelphia, PA
08-17 Summer Stage - New York, NY

Babyshambles Record New Song
What is it with drug or criminal referenced songs by
these guys? Apparently it isn't enough the Pete
Doherty is in the news because of drug issues more
often than MLB players. And even without a
record contract, Babyshambles is moving along. They
recently put down a new track, 'Beg, Steal or
Borrow' to be released as part of a three song
single. The other two songs will be a live and remix
cut of the same song. Just be prepared to import off
of EBay because the single CD will only be available
for those attending London's Get Loaded in the Park
festival. Somehow that title is so befitting.
In related Pete Doherty news. The leader of
Babyshambles will appear on Friday Night with
Jonathan Ross. If you may recall (but probably
not if you don't stalk the BBC option on your cable
box) Doherty interviewed in 2004 with Newsnight in
regards to the Libertines split or 'exile' as he
likes to put it. This time around, the tabloid
happy Doherty is to address drugs and his past with
the Libertines. So really, it's like Rocky II.
The broadcast will air July 7th at 10:45p.m. on BBC1
but check local listings first.

V
Festival Goes Yankee - Sortta

You gotta love the British invasion. "That was
a half century ago!" you retort. Not so.
Because Virgin is brining their popular V
Festival to North America. The tour, which
was overseas only until now, featured some insane
acts including - but not limited to Wolfmother,
Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, Flaming Lips, Jose
Gonzales, and tons more. Richard Branson
announced that the formally Brit-only fest will hit
our continent on September 9th and 10th. We'll
keep you posted on the finalized lineup and ticket
info when we get it. |
