Following our earlier story this week, Victory Records has no intentions of letting Hawthorne Heights go, despite the bands pending lawsuit against the label for mismanagement of funds and monies due.

The label is sitting the bands contract for the reason as the Heights still owes Victory two more albums.

Pete Doherty with The Streets

What is it with the Supergroup anthem these days? From White/Benson's Raconteurs to VH1's perfect hangover marathons of a show with the same title - it's everywhere. Now Pete Doherty of ex-Libertines and tabloid drug use is collaborating with The Streets' Mike Skinner on a new version of the Streets song 'Prangin' Out'.

The marriage is a bit odd to say the least (Doherty's poetic verses and Skinner's hip beats) but exciting none-the-less.  Doherty, in the wake of many rehab stints has been hard at work recording new material with his current outfit Babyshambles and some solo projects, writing, and making amends with his old band - now known as Dirty Pretty Things.

Beck's New Video 'We Dance Alone'

Beck might be the biggest tease since Abby Schneiders in third grade.  Not only does he continuously drop knowledge on his upcoming 'Information' album, but he continues to release the low budget art love videos for the album.  For more info on the upcoming release, check out the links below.

And thus we give you 'We Dance Alone' the newest video/single to be released from the Beck camp. Don't adjust your monitor, it's suppose to look like Pong at moments. It's called Art you silly jocks!

Sub Pop Nabs Lonely, Dear

The Swedes are coming! The Swedes are coming! Emil Svanängen - also known as Lonely, Dear is attacking the US with his soul sound via Sub Pop Records. His latest effort, Loney, Noir won't be released until February 6th in the states, but timing is everything right?

Taking the Eric Elbogen approach [from Say Hi To Your Mom... I guess if I have to explain the reference it's not as fun - ed.] Emil has recorded and self released all his albums from his studio apartment in Stockholm over the years.

Sub Pop is describing the works as "...soulful indie folk with a powerful mini orchestra". We'd chime in but our Scandinavian intern has passed out from lack of Husmanskost in the states so we can't really understand two-thirds of Lonely, Dear's site.

Yeah Yeah Yeah Fall Tour

It makes you want to say 'Fuck yeah' but then you realize you are a play on words and that ain't cool. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have just announced their Fall Tour schedule that will see them skirting around the world. Karen O and Co. will make some select stops in the UK including the famed Leeds Festival to kick the tea drinkers in the knickers before returning to the US to finish up in select cities.

Judging by the spotty nature of the shows in the US, I wouldn't be surprised if and when the tour runs into the winter months and heads through the Midwest.

UK Charts to Include Videos
We were just as surprised as the next that not only did music videos still exist (damn you Real World - damn you all to hell) but that they are viewed as a viable piece of selling statistics.  The Official UK Charts Company announced that they are holding talks with music labels to monitor downloads of music videos to be included in their reports by years end.

With Apple and their famed iTunes store showing some 35 million videos have been introduced since October of 2005, the UK firm feels it is a necessity to report this data to the labels to provide more accurate and broad sales.

The Thrills Finishing New Album

Things we know: The Thrills are almost done with their latest album, they watch Days of Our Lives (DOOL) and they have a model plane infatuation.

The Thrill's Connor Deasy recently posted some updates on the as-of-yet untitled album's progress off their MySpace blog:

"It's the last night in the studio. We've been working from noon 'till 1 in the morning for a month and half with one day off a week. I believe this record will be our best work to date. The songs have really risen to the occasion. There's only been one casualty. Maybe she'll turn up on another record. We recorded our first instrumental. Could be a good opener. We're going to go home for a week or so. Get some sleep and perspective, then regroup and mix it."

The album is set for release early 2007.

Hawthorne Heights Leaves Victory

Let the poo fly. Hawthorne Heights have split ways with Victory Records and filed a lawsuit against the label in the District Court of Northern Illinois on Tuesday.  The band is claiming that Victory Records owes them unpaid royalties.  Victory Records states they have not made up the difference in distribution and are still in need to recoup expenses necessary to receive royalties.  The band made an official statement on their mySpace page - break-up post-it note style:

"Tony Brummel is a man that cares more about his ego and bank account than the bands themselves.

"We have never seen a single dollar in artist royalties from Victory Records [and] questionable accounting practices are the culprit and we are in fact owed substantial amounts of money."

In retort, Robert Meloni - Victory Records litigation counsel told MTV.com that the lawsuit had no merit:

"Victory Records fully expects Hawthorne Heights to honor their commitment to deliver two additional studio albums to Victory pursuant to their recording artist agreement with Victory."

The fallout of this dispute has many detrimental implications against Victory including slander, payola accusations, and accounting fraud.  We'll keep you posted.

Deadly Snakes Split

Canada is quivering in her boots today.  With previous news that Death From Above 1979 was breaking up (see this story) still leaving mild aftershocks in the Mapel Leaf hemesphere, now one of our favorite off beat punk acts Deadly Snakes have announced a break up.

The band sited the actual music portion of their lives was always a side project that simply went beyond their initial plans.

The band still has one last release up their sleeves: a b-side record with their upcoming Horseshoe gig in tow.

The Knife Tour US
The beautiful electronic oddity that is The Knife is looking to hit US soil for the first time for an - albeit short - but hopefully sweet tour stint.  As part of their support tour for their recently beloved Silent Shout, the Swedish duo will also continue their tripped out stage sets and light shows again at the hands of artist and director Andreas Nilsson. Look for our review of their latest in the coming week.

If in roam you can also see them this month throughout parts of Europe and abroad.

Death From Above 1979 Dead

It has been a long time since we've heard word out of the Canadian duo known as Death From Above 1979 and now we know why. Singer and bassist Jesse Wheeler revealed the band has parted ways due to simply growing apart and growing up.

In a statement from Wheeler:

"Over the last 3 years of touring, Sebastien (Grangier, drums) and I had grown apart to such an extent that the only real time we spoke was just before we would play and during interviews," Wheeler said in a statement. "We both changed so much that the people we were by the end of it, probably wouldn't have been friends if they were to meet for the first time again. It's a totally normal function of growing up."

The duo were best known for their infused synth dance noise care of the base/drum/keyboard trifecta.  Keeler is currently working with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age contributing bass to the new album.

Lollapalooza Ends; World Tired

The annual re-tooled festival that use to be about music against the machine has turned into a machine itself.  Despite the festival losing focus with the sheer amount of acts and sponsors, this years Lollapalooza went off with few hitches but had most clamoring between congested time slots of their favorite acts.

Stages were further apart this year preventing the overlap of music but also required patrons to travel larger distances in less time. Picture in your mind about 30,000 people all going to the same spot at one time and you get the gist.

Sure Kanye West was peeved that his sound system went out but did he have to shun the post party? Common performed his nominated Be and forgetting his past catalogue.  Gnarls Barkley suffered some sore throat issues but belted out the hits the crowed desired.  Wilco showed some new cards of pop-pleasure from their upcoming release. Flaming Lips did their crazy stage antics with balls and confetti galore.  The Raconteurs proved they are just as amazing on stage as in the studio continuing their dueling vocals and guitars. 30+ hours of live music can wear on any human being. And Jared Ledo's band should go away and burn forever in the same pit as Vanilla Ice.

Despite some of these minor gripes and praises, Lollapalooza saw an amazing 60,000 people per day and had little to no scuffles with law or disgruntled fans.  Let's just work on that scheduling for next year.
