Killers Announce Tour

In preparation for their long awaited follow up to last year's Hot Fuss, The Killers are letting the cat out of the bag on their Sam's Town fall tour.  It may look short on paper but size doesn't matter, right? Wrong! Because even though its one month, these are some huge venues, folks.  So size does matter, Gwen.

From what we've heard of the new album, the band is leaving their retro 80's approach that proved so rewarding on their last album in favor of a broader rock sound that results in a less time defining genre.

Doherty at Priory

We only report it because we love the guy, not the news he makes as a result. Pete Doherty has been ordered by District Judge Alison Rose to be detained at The Priory - a clinic known for treating famous folk with addictions.

On August 17th, Doherty pleaded guilty to seven counts of drug possession.  A sentenced is expected to be handed down by September 4th. The judge is not ruling out jail time for the oft charged offender.

Babyshambles Album Info

For some people, drugs just make them that much more a conduit for creation.  Pete Doherty and the Babyshambles crew are ready to release a b-sides compilation entitled Back On The Bus - What Goes On Tour Stays On Tour.  Despite the shabby Vegas punch, the album itself looks to be a brilliant compilation of covers and acoustic versions of already classic Babyshambles tunes.  Reportedly included is an acoustic version of 'What Katie Did Next'. Also included is a rare discussion with the band on supermodels and 'crack whores' entitled 'Tourbus Tales - Babyshambles'.

The album is set for release in the UK on September 18th.

Track List:

01 The Creation - 'Making Time'
02 The Clash - 'Jail Guitar Door'

Bloc Party's 'Darker' Turn

Say goodbye to Kele Okereke and the Bloc Party sound of yesteryear.  2005's Silent Alarm will be but a distant memory in comparison to the bands upcoming - still untitled, release. According to Okereke, the band is taking a darker and more 'dense' sound. In an interview with NME, he further described the album, which is nearing completion as, "...not noisey, but it's quite dense."

He went on to mention that public violence was the influence for the directional change.  With the bombing in London earlier this year along with several personal tragedies, the band with the aid of Jacknife Lee's production (U2, Snow Patrol) will lose most of their punk sound in favor of much more grandeur rock ballads.

For all previous news on their upcoming release including some song info, check out our link below.

The BBC compilations over the years have been a mixed back of genuine rarity and virtual poo.  From the early Beatles recordings and boring interviews to the amazingly raw Zeppelin cuts, the collection has seen staggering polar results.

Ryan Adams Goes Country

Jack White helps Loretta Lynn find her stride again and it's hailed as a revolution for the classic country artist.  Ryan Adams tries to make it a hat trick and it might come off as apeish.  The alt rocker produced Willie Nelson's upcoming release Songbird in all formats including using his Cardinals band as backup on every track.

His work doesn't end behind the glass though, as Adams plans on touring with Nelson at the Hollwood Bowl show on September 10th.

Songbird is due to hit your local retailer on October 30th.

YouTube vs. MTV

I want my YouTube?  You might just be saying that soon enough.  Thanks to the reality television boon, MTV has virtually zero time slots dedicated to music videos. And their MTV2 sister station is quickly following form.  That leaves us MTVU which will eventually show Campus Ladies instead of art house crap.  But YouTube wants to show you the love.  YouTube's Steve Chen has entered talks with all major labels to attempt to incorporate the entire music video catalogue since birth onto their database - for free.  Yes free!  Eat that Apple!

We'll still take the YouTube post of two Asian kids lip-syncing Backstreet Boys over the legit video any day.

Smashing Pumpkins Go Queen

Farewell independence, your sound shaped so many artists lives.  So long hard headed alternative sound, we bed adieu to you.  Billy Corgen, recently completing his new ensemble of Smashing Pumpkins has addressed his fans on the band's website that Roy Thomas Baker will produce their upcoming album.  Baker is most known in the music industry for his work with Queen and The Darkness.

Many questions still remain on the band's makeup including players, release target date, or even the album's title.  One thing we do know is that the direction of the album is going to be anything but the signature Pumpkin's sound now with different members and an oddball but reputable choice for production.

We'll keep you posted.

.mp3: The Thermals; Tour and New Album
Portland has a hell of a secret with The Thermals. The duo of Kathy Foster and Hutch Harris worked overtime on their latest album when drummer Jordan Hudson took off. We don't normally boast about a band until the review is out, but we've been spinning their latest The Body, The Blood, The Machine for a few weeks now and must say it is a fantastically hard hitting post punk anthem. So much so that we had to post one of their songs in our Audio Section.  Check out the link below.

Look for the review of The Body, The Blood, The Machine on Monday.

Lily Allen vs. Indie Music

I don't know that picking a fight with fans of drug and non-law abiding artists like the Libertines is a smart move as far as 'safety' goes.  But that's just what Lily Allen did when she criticized Carl Barat and The Kooks by calling their fans obsessive.

Can you talk shit about a musician like Barat who is still playing on stage with broken bones?

Note to Lily: you are an attractive female singer.  You don't know what an obsessive fan is yet, sweets.

She also addressed to NME her much ballyhooed war against indie music.  "I like lots of indie bands," she told NME, "I'm a fan of good guitar music. I think it's just that at the moment everyone's like, 'Music's so great, we've go these great indie rock bands' but in reality they all sound the same."

Let the facieses fly.

Animal Collective Reissue

Don't say those online petitions don't matter because they - well the don't.  But fans of Animal Collective who have been begging for the band to re-release their earlier works will finally get their wish.

Thanks to the greedy bastards who have rare copies of Animal Collectives record Hollinndagain selling on eBay for silly sums of loot, the band finally decided to make some money as well and appease their fanbase (of course).

A little history: Hallinndagain was originally released in 2002 with an ultra-small print of 300 copies...in hand painted sleeves.

Fast forward, the reissue will hit store shelves on October 31st on both CD and LP on the bands Paw Tracks label.

Peaches Underwear eBanned

What is the world coming to when you can't sell some drawers on eBay?  I'm sure that's what Peaches, who penned the song 'Impeach My Bush'  will be singing about on her next album. The artist had to remove a pair of underpants from the online marketplace when the site deemed it to be "unsuitable" for sale.

As previously reported, Peaches is part of a group of singers and artists raising money for Three Gut Records founder Tyler Clark Burke.  The record guru, who's experienced family health issues as of late, is receiving aid from his friends to help buy a home.  Atop this, twenty percent of the proceeds will go to Habitat For Humanity.

Burke isn't taking it lying down though.  He's instead selling a "ball of peach yarn" so the corporate mongrels of eBay-isms will not pull the auction.  The winner will receive a free pair of Peaches used thong as well.

For more details and to bid on thongs, go here.

Snow Patrol Cancels More Shows

Life continues to go downhill under the Bush regime.  The latest victims are Snow Patrol and their US Tour.  The band was forced to cancel a pair of shows in Seattle and Portland this weekend because of air traffic delays due to the foiled terrorist attempts this weekend in the UK.  Their regular tour will resume in Boston tonight but they have yet to reschedule the missed shows.

This is only a flash in the pan for the bands tour this year.  In April, the band had to reschedule multiple shows because of Gary Lightbody's throat problems.

Primal Screams EP Info

Primal Screams are ready to prove their worth. Their recent release of Primal Screams met with mixed reviews but the fun loving Scots are ready to prove their critics wrong with an EP release of bonus tracks that never made it to the state-side release of Riot City Blues.

After the dismal display on their last effort, one hopes the B-Sides live up to their intention and offer different sounds from the group.

Thankfully, the band is a sight live. So get your passport and your parent's legal drug money for the overseas adventure that awaits:

Walkmen Cover Harry Nilsson

1974: Dungeons and Dragons was released, tabloid accepted People Magazine is published, Nixon Resigns.  All this potential and The Walkmen pick Harry Nilsson as their inspiration for the year.  The NYC indie dreamsicles are readying a new project that will cover Harry Nilsson's 1974 opus Pussycats. There is no release date yet but the album as been finished for some time as it was the band's last project before their previous studio shut down.

Lollapalooza Scores Big

Don't call it a comeback, but Lollapalooza is a bonified success once again.  The numbers are in and the three day festival held for the second year in a row at Chicago's Grant Park racked in $166 million dollars - out grossing last years two day incarnation by over $100 million.

While many complained about the porto potty situation and the herd like atmosphere trekking from stage to stage, none could complain about the diverse lineups and amazingly brilliant weather and times that were had.

Almost poetic since the festival was fledgling in 2004 when it had to cancel it's lineup due to lack of ticket sales and interest.
