Mos Def Arrested

Hip-hop underrated rapper/singer and talented actor Mos Def was arrested Thursday night outside the Radio City Music Hall after the MTV Video Music Awards.

The artist, who pulled up in a flatbed truck performed an impromptu version of his critical Bush regime song 'Katrina Clap'.  Police reported asked Def and his crew to shut down the performance due to safety concerns, but the entourage did not abide.  Several members of his crew including Mos Def were arrested but later released the next day.  Charges, if any, have not been made public as of yet.

Hope he had his towel in prison.

Mos Def is currently working on his upcoming Tru3 Magic album due out later in the year.

Franz Ferdinand Guitarist Goes Solo

Maximo Park Album Details

Maximo Park's Paul Smith has slated a release date for the band's next album for March 2007.  He also reports that the band have severed ties with A Certain Trigger producer Paul Epworth whose credits include Bloc Party and The Futureheads.

Paul sited a lack of control while speaking with Pitchfork stating:

"We wanted to use somebody who didn't tell us what to do and didn't think that they knew everything about music, and would have a particular sound."

Sounds like the Maximo camp isn't too thrilled with Epworth's work in the past on a personal level.  It will be interesting to see how a free-for-all sound suits the band in an uncontrolled environment.

Of course, the Pixies aren't famous for keeping it simple either.

Songs currently being worked on for the upcoming album are listed below but not confirmed as final cuts for the release:

'Russian Literature'
'Girls Who Play Guitar'
'Books From Boxes'
'Nosebleed'
'By The Monument'

We'll keep you posted on more as it comes from the studio.

Hold Steady Launch Network

Who the fuck needs Myspace?  That's what Hold Steady are thinking these days.  The group, as part of the recent move to Vagrant Records, have launched a networking site in which fans can upload video, talk about chicks/dudes/shows, and assumabley [its not a word but I like it] hook up - but not with the band.

Their upcoming album, Boys and Girls In America will be released on October second and is the follow up to 2005's stellar Separation Sunday.

You can check out their anti-myspace regime at www.boysandgirlsinamerica.com

Video: Wolf Parade 'I'll Believe in Anything'

It's been awhile since we cried wolf but now its just and needed.  Wolf Parade are pimping a new single 'I'll Believe in Anything' off their much loved Apologies to the Queen Mary album.  As if keeping with the albums title, the video is set in the 1800's and features some humorous pistola whipping duals and hysterical dramatics in the name of infatuation.

Rancid's Guitarist Collapses

Rancid's Lars Frederiksen collapsed on staged last night at the Montreal Le Spectrum de Montreal show.  The singer/guitarist apparently passed out in med-set and was rushed to a nearby hospital.  Neither the label nor the band are confirming any reasons or current condition of their band mate.

The band has decided to cancel the upcoming shows but  will resume the tour on September 5th when they play the Pittsburgh City Zoo.

It's like we are fortuitous with the band.  Earlier this week we reported on Armstrong's upcoming solo albums.  But besides sharing the same band, there's really no correlation except wicked smarts on our part.

Be Your Own Pet's Drummer Splits

Goals; you set them in life at an early age.  Mine was making money [still has to be checked]. So, when the drummer of the up and coming band Be Your Own Pet decides to jump ship in order to work with his family and go to college, I cry.  The kid just cusped puberty and makes more than me.  Damn you list of shame! Damn you!  Here's the official statement on Jamin Orrall's departure:

"Jamin Orrall has left the band Be Your Own Pet in order to focus on his family owned label, Infinity Cat as well as looking at colleges for the near future. However he is still staying musically active with the band he formed with his brother Jake, 'JEFF'."

The band will continue to limp along as a now revamped tripod.  No replacement drummer has been announced but with an impending tour at the end of September that sees the band across the country, one can only hope soon.

Babyshambles To Parlaphone

Pete Dohertry just got alot more drug money.  London's Daily Mirror is reporting that British major label Parlaphone has signed Babyshambles onto their stellar roster that includes the likes of Coldplay and Lily Allen.  The deal is reportedly work more than $1.5 million.

There was no information available at time of press as to the terms of the contract.  Earlier this year, Rough Trade's contract with the group lapsed with the release of Down in Albion overseas.

In more Doherty news, the artist has apparently teamed up with ex Libertine Carl Barat to record a new song for Strummerville, a musical charity for the late Clash frontman Joe Strummer.  The duo are reportedly covering the Clash's 'Janie Jones'.

Green Day in Studio

The punk icons Green Day are reportedly back in the studio working on the followup to 2004's American Idiot.  On a posting on the band's website, the team admitted to working on new material:

"Billie, Mike and Tre are back from summer vacations working hard on new material for the next Green Day album. Stay tuned for more news next week."

Frontman Billie Armstrong recently told MTV that the band would essentially have to create another opus; that a simple 12 song album was not an option and "boring".

Although we previous reported that the band was planning on heading back into the studio in the fall after a much needed break from touring, we never expected them to keep honest. We'll let you know when we find out more.

Bruce Gary Dead At 55

Bruce Gary died today at the age of 55 of lymphoma.  The 70's drummer was most known for his work with The Knack but also worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, Stephen Stills, Yoko Ono, and George Harrison on many projects.  He also produced many of Jimi Hendrix's archive recordings.

The Knack released a statement via their website:

"We are shocked and saddened by Bruce's death. He was an integral part of our sound not to mention a great drummer. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and loved ones."

Bruce was well known for the 1979 hit single 'My Sharona' but did not participate with The Knack in recent reunions.

Video: Kweller's OMPS #4

There's no shame in self promotion - at least not in Ben Kweller's camp.  The do-it-all-yourself artist is readying the release of his eponymous album by shamelessly documenting his playing styles and influences via One Minute Pop Song - a video documentary of sorts that shows the behind-the-scenes life of the artist in several parts.

We've been keeping you up to date with all the chapters; thus number four is here for your viewing pleasure.

Radiohead Live DVD

Bonnaroo for us was nothing if it weren't for key performances like that of Radiohead.  Thankfully, we will get the chance to relive it on a nightly basis [yes - we will watch it nightly because it was that flippin sweet]. Thom Yorke, Radiohead's esteemed frontman recently spoke with BBC 6 Music and Tom Robinson in which he admits that the band has full intention to supply its needy fan base with a live DVD of the event and possibly more:

"We did this festival called Bonnaroo. We did 2.5 hours. And there's 80,000 people, admittedly they've been smoking the sticky green all day-- probably wouldn't go anywhere anyway. It was just amazing. We played loads of new stuff. We did whole sections of quiet piano songs and it sounds like the most grotesque, self-indulgent nonsense, but it probably is my favorite gig for years and years and years. It was a really mellow evening. Actually it's all being filmed, but we're sitting on it because there's loads of new stuff on it. Because we're mean like that. It will come out eventually."

Of course, in Yorke fashion, there is no time table except future tenses so don't hold your breath.  We'll keep you posted on anything we find out.
