Summer will never end! At least, that's the idea
behind Glasgow's upcoming Indian Summer Festival at
Victory Park. This weekend will highlight a
dizzying array of indie artists from veterans like
Yo La Tengo to wet behind the ears newbies like
Tapes n Tapes.
I want to point out that Amp Fiddler will steal
the show.

Mos Def
Arrested
Hip-hop underrated rapper/singer and talented
actor Mos Def was arrested Thursday night outside
the Radio City Music Hall after the MTV Video Music
Awards.
The artist, who pulled up in a flatbed truck
performed an impromptu version of his critical Bush
regime song 'Katrina Clap'. Police reported
asked Def and his crew to shut down the performance
due to safety concerns, but the entourage did not
abide. Several members of his crew including
Mos Def were arrested but later released the next
day. Charges, if any, have not been made
public as of yet.
Hope he had his towel in prison.
Mos Def is
currently working on his upcoming Tru3 Magic
album due out later in the year.
Franz
Ferdinand Guitarist Goes Solo
After months of silence, Franz Ferdinand's
guitarist Nick McCarthy is finally announcing
details on his upcoming side project. The
band, Box Codax, is actually a duo consisting of
McCarthy and long time friend Alexander Ragnew.
The album, Only An Orchard Away is set to
release on September 4th. The duo also plan on
releasing several EP's in the future; sighting a
current plan of every six months. Live dates are
also in the works. We'll keep you posted.
Maximo
Park Album Details
Maximo Park's Paul Smith has slated a release
date for the band's next album for March 2007.
He also reports that the band have severed ties with
A Certain Trigger producer Paul Epworth whose
credits include Bloc Party and The Futureheads.
Paul sited a lack of control while speaking with
Pitchfork stating:
"We wanted to use somebody who didn't tell us
what to do and didn't think that they knew
everything about music, and would have a particular
sound."
Sounds like the Maximo camp isn't too thrilled
with Epworth's work in the past on a personal level.
It will be interesting to see how a free-for-all
sound suits the band in an uncontrolled environment.
Of course, the Pixies aren't famous for keeping
it simple either.
Songs currently being worked on for the upcoming
album are listed below but not confirmed as final
cuts for the release:
'Russian Literature'
'Girls Who Play Guitar'
'Books From Boxes'
'Nosebleed'
'By The Monument'
We'll keep you posted on more as it comes from
the studio.
Hold
Steady Launch Network
Who the fuck needs Myspace? That's what
Hold Steady are thinking these days. The
group, as part of the recent move to Vagrant
Records, have launched a networking site in which
fans can upload video, talk about
chicks/dudes/shows, and assumabley [its not a word
but I like it] hook up - but not with the band.
Their upcoming album, Boys and Girls In
America will be released on October second and
is the follow up to 2005's stellar Separation
Sunday.
It's been awhile since we cried wolf but now its
just and needed. Wolf Parade are pimping a
new single 'I'll Believe in Anything' off their much loved
Apologies to the Queen Mary album. As
if keeping with the albums title, the video is set
in the 1800's and features some humorous pistola
whipping duals and hysterical dramatics in the name
of infatuation.
Rancid's Guitarist Collapses
Rancid's Lars Frederiksen collapsed on staged
last night at the Montreal Le Spectrum de Montreal
show. The singer/guitarist apparently passed
out in med-set and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Neither the label nor the band are confirming any
reasons or current condition of their band mate.
The band has decided to cancel the upcoming shows
but will resume the tour on September 5th when
they play the Pittsburgh City Zoo.
It's like we are fortuitous with the band.
Earlier this week we reported on Armstrong's
upcoming solo albums. But besides sharing the
same band, there's really no correlation except
wicked smarts on our part.
A star studded colaboration is taking place. Bloc
Party, The Autmatic, and Maximo Park are taking part
in a colaboration with Yourcodenameis:milo on the
bands upcoming album Print Is Dead Vol 1. The album,
due out November 6th will feature almost a dozen
tracks and include contributions from Gordon Moakes
of Bloc Party, Maximo Park, The Futureheads, Lethal
Bizzle, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Hot Club De Paris,
and The Automatic.
Gordon Moakes contribution 'Wait A Minute' will
also be featured on a limited edition 7" only single
and download on October 2nd.
Broken
Social Scene Tour
Maybe Justin Peroff needs to make money for the
boxers he just gave away recently on an online
auction to raise funds for a friend. The Canadian
rock outfit Broken Social Scene is hitting the road
across America to flex their tour muscles. The 20
date romp will include Do Make Say Think. Good
news considering the band announced that they were
taking a indefinite break from touring and
recording.

group is still targeting their September 26th
release of Ta Dah but building steam with the recent
release of the first single 'I Don't Feel Like
Dancing'. Check out the video below.
The group is also featuring a serial podcast of
behind-the-scenes footage of their dramatic lives.

another country. All Asia jokes aside, the 7 piece
art-folk outfit Canada is hitting the road with
Headlights to support their upcoming release This
Cursed House on September 19th. The sextet plus
one will be joined on tour with the likes of RJD2

The mix venture of Soulwax and it's multiple
alter egos are hitting the road in September.
The fellows who remix their own material under other
aliases will be traveling the great north including
a stop at the much hyped V Festival in Baltimore -
but only as 2manydjs.
So you can be in the know; Soulwax also play as
the alter group 2manydjs and Nite Versions - often
times under alternate play styles and remixes.
You can hear a sample of their work in our Audio
Section or click on the linky below.

Remember the days that Beck wasn't in the news?
Neither do we. The style creator of country
pop and hip-hop stud is not only working on placing
the final touches for his upcoming full length
The Information, running a design contest for
his album cover, recording multiple videos for the
album but now he's headlining the brand spanking new
LA Weekly Detour Festival.
The single day event will take place on October
7th, just days after his album hits stores in
downtown Los Angeles. Queens of The Stone Age,
Basement Jaxx, The Like and !!! have all hopped on
board.
Goals; you set them in life at an early age.
Mine was making money [still has to be checked]. So,
when the drummer of the up and coming band Be Your
Own Pet decides to jump ship in order to work with
his family and go to college, I cry. The kid
just cusped puberty and makes more than me.
Damn you list of shame! Damn you! Here's the
official statement on Jamin Orrall's departure:
"Jamin Orrall has left the band Be Your Own
Pet in order to focus on his family owned label,
Infinity Cat as well as looking at colleges for the
near future. However he is still staying musically
active with the band he formed with his brother
Jake, 'JEFF'."
The band will continue to limp along as a now
revamped tripod. No replacement drummer has
been announced but with an impending tour at the end
of September that sees the band across the country,
one can only hope soon.

Lemonheads US Tour
Dandy in Dandoland. At least that's what we
say. After yesterday's news of the UK tour,
the The Lemonheads double-downed with their US plans
and we are ever so stoked.
Of course, no word yet on who the backup band
will be but considering that the composite makeup of
the Lemonheads in studio were Karl Alvarez and Bill
Stevenson from All/Decendents, it's a save bet that
they will be there as well.

Pete Dohertry just got alot more drug money.
London's Daily Mirror is reporting that British
major label Parlaphone has signed Babyshambles onto
their stellar roster that includes the likes of
Coldplay and Lily Allen. The deal is
reportedly work more than $1.5 million.
There was no information available at time of
press as to the terms of the contract. Earlier
this year, Rough Trade's contract with the group
lapsed with the release of Down in Albion
overseas.
In more Doherty news, the artist has apparently
teamed up with ex Libertine Carl Barat to record a
new song for Strummerville, a musical charity for
the late Clash frontman Joe Strummer. The duo
are reportedly covering the Clash's 'Janie Jones'.
Art
Brut and We Are Scientists Swap Covers
Genious strikes once every so often: The Theory
of Relativity, Chicago excommunicating Bartman to
Florida, all of which rank high on our list of smart
moves. It's about to get retooled. We
Are Scientists and Art Brut have not only been
planning an extensive North American tour, but the
two indie darlings have also swapped albums.
The two groups have finished recording their
respective covers of Bang Ban Rock & Roll and
The Great Escape. It is being reported out of
the band's camps that Scientists covered the Art
Brut album in a Velvet Ground like tone while Brut
covered Scientists material to the style of Lynyrd
Skynrd.
The covers will be available for purchase on tour
only as of now.

Rancid's Armstrong Free Album
International cover-up! Hardly, but Rancid
frontman Tim Armstrong is making some noise over at
Epitaph by announcing he plans to release an albums
worth of solo material free via the label's website
over a period of time. The sporadic releases
will be available for download starting October 7th
but no other follow-up dates have been announced.
In other Rancid news, Armstrong is planning to
head back to the studio after the holidays with his
crew to record a follow up to 2003's
Indestructable.
Polyphonic Spree Cover Nirvana
Men and women in gowns should not cover Nirvana.
Of course, Kurt use to wear dresses from time to
time so I guess we are retorted - by ourselves.
Gown flaunting mega band member group Polyphonic
Spree have covered Nirvana's 'Lithium' on their
upcoming five track EP Wait.
The EP will also feature two new songs along with
covers of Tripping Daisy and Psychedelic Furs.
Track List:
01 Mental Cabaret
02 I'm Calling
03 Lithium [Nirvana cover]
04 Love My Way [Psychedelic Furs cover]
05 Sonic Boom [Tripping Daisy cover]
The band is also working on all new material for
their third full length due out next year with the
tentative title The Fragile Army.
Green
Day in Studio
The punk icons Green Day are reportedly back in
the studio working on the followup to 2004's
American Idiot. On a posting on the band's
website, the team admitted to working on new
material:
"Billie, Mike and Tre are back from summer
vacations working hard on new material for the next
Green Day album. Stay tuned for more news next
week."
Frontman Billie Armstrong recently told MTV that
the band would essentially have to create another
opus; that a simple 12 song album was not an option
and "boring".
Although we previous reported that the band was
planning on heading back into the studio in the fall
after a much needed break from touring, we never
expected them to keep honest. We'll let you know
when we find out more.
She's been yanked! The pint-sized Brit hip-hop
princess Lady Sovereign is not only readying her
American release Public Warning due out on
October 17th, but she's getting the singles down for
the bling.
'Love Me Or Hate Me' the first single off her new
album is set for download release only thru Verizon
Wireless and their cellular phone customers. The
song will be used as a heavy promotion along with
the Chocolate LG phone.

Bruce
Gary Dead At 55
Bruce Gary died today at the age of 55 of
lymphoma. The 70's drummer was most known for
his work with The Knack but also worked with the
likes of Bob Dylan, Stephen Stills, Yoko Ono, and
George Harrison on many projects. He also
produced many of Jimi Hendrix's archive recordings.
The Knack released a statement via their website:
"We are shocked and saddened by Bruce's death.
He was an integral part of our sound not to mention
a great drummer. Our hearts go out to his family,
friends and loved ones."
Bruce was well known for the 1979 hit single 'My
Sharona' but did not participate with The Knack in
recent reunions.

Kweller's OMPS #4
There's no shame in self promotion - at least not in
Ben Kweller's camp. The do-it-all-yourself
artist is readying the release of his eponymous
album by shamelessly documenting his playing styles
and influences via One Minute Pop Song - a video
documentary of sorts that shows the
behind-the-scenes life of the artist in several
parts.
We've been keeping you up to date with all the
chapters; thus number four is here for your viewing
pleasure.
Get ready for a new level of Lisa bashing.
Hip-hop maestro Atmosphere is back on tour and
hitting the great white north and parts of the
Northern US. Along for the ride is the Chicago
native Psalm One, who recently release The Death
of Frequent Flyers in July. Brother Ali, who was
also featured on Psalm One's album will join in on
select dates.

Radiohead Live DVD
Bonnaroo for us was nothing if it weren't for key
performances like that of Radiohead.
Thankfully, we will get the chance to relive it on a
nightly basis [yes - we will watch it nightly
because it was that flippin sweet]. Thom Yorke,
Radiohead's esteemed frontman recently spoke with
BBC 6 Music and Tom Robinson in which he admits that
the band has full intention to supply its needy fan
base with a live DVD of the event and possibly more:
"We did this festival called Bonnaroo. We did
2.5 hours. And there's 80,000 people, admittedly
they've been smoking the sticky green all day--
probably wouldn't go anywhere anyway. It was just
amazing. We played loads of new stuff. We did whole
sections of quiet piano songs and it sounds like the
most grotesque, self-indulgent nonsense, but it
probably is my favorite gig for years and years and
years. It was a really mellow evening. Actually it's
all being filmed, but we're sitting on it because
there's loads of new stuff on it. Because we're mean
like that. It will come out eventually."
Of course, in Yorke fashion, there is no time
table except future tenses so don't hold your
breath. We'll keep you posted on anything we
find out.
