We'd be lying if we didn't tell you that 'Out
There' is one of our all time favorite songs.
So we were tickled pink to hear that Dinosaur Jr. is
reforming it's original lineup for a new album.
This would the first one of such for over a decade.
While still not due until spring of next year,
and possibly just a one time thing - the album is
being recorded at J Mascis' home studio in
Massachusetts.
In other DJ news, the band is also working on a
DVD to be release around the same time that will
include footage from the group's reunion tour.
We'll keep you informed when we get more
knowledge. But for now revel in the fact that
feedback guitar is soon to take it's place in your
hallow sound system once again.
Nick
McCarthy's Import Tax
Looking to get Nick McCarthy's new album off his
band Box Codax? Well, you are gonna have to pay for
it. As previously reported, the Franz Ferdinand
guitarist is currently working on a side band album
entitled Only An Orchard Away. What we were
never told and now ready to riot over is a post by
the artist on his blog stating he has no plans on
bringing the album overseas for stateside
distribution.
Collectively: '&#@&%'
Even though the album has been out now in the UK,
the eleven track album will never see the light of
day - at this point - save a trusty import venue.
The boys of Raconteurs continue to pump them out.
This time, the stop motion festival of 'Broken Boy
Soldiers' and all its creepy Toy Story
craziness are the focus here. Does it ever
really need to make sense?
Oh what a video can do to your image. After the
success of the band's 'Here It Goes Again' video in
which they balleted across several tredmills and
into the hearts of YouTube fans everywhere, OK GO is
now ready to take their show on the road with acts
like The French Kicks and Death Cab For Cutie.

Their latest album has also gone gold as Eyes

Some may blame it on Grey's Anatomy but I say its

Buena
Vista Social Club Charity Album
Fight the fight of global warming in November! As
odd as it sounds to those of us in our Chicago
office as we curse the diabolical winter wind on our
daily commute to 950, its a good cause
none-the-less. Buena Vista Social Club things
so too. The Afro-Cuban act is working with
Hip-O Records on Rhythms Del Mundo, a
collaborative cover album to aid Artists Project
Earth. The organization supports proactive
work to end global warming.
This isn't your Gap cover album, folks.
Acts like Coldplay, Jack Johnson, The Arctic
Monkeys, Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand and more have
given their protective blessings for the troupe to
rework tunes like 'Clocks', 'Better Together', and
'Dancing Shoes' in their signature Latin tones.
While others like Kaiser Chiefs and Dido are
highlighted, one of the true gems has to be the last
vocal recording of Afro-Cuban bolero singer Ibrahim
Ferrer who died last year of multiple organ failure
while on tour at age 78.
Founder of APE, Kenny Young, had this to say
about how the the project came to fruition:
"The project was sparked off by the
devastating Tsunami of Xmas 2005. The idea came in
to do a project with The Buena Vista Social Club. to
fuse their Latin sounds with Western artists and
their familiar popular songs. The project evolved
when more environmental disasters struck - the Asian
Earthquakes and Hurricane Katrina. But the big
picture was climate change. You can call these
natural disasters but after all the research and
scientific data, we know that we're at least partly
to blame for some of these disasters. Global warming
is now in the news daily. If we don't act in the
time frame our experts give us, our grandchildren
will curse us eternally."
The album is scheduled to be released on November
14th in what else but carbon neutral packaging.
Track List:
01 Clocks - Coldplay
02 Better Together - Jack Johnson
03 Dancing Shoes - Arctic Monkeys

Your Hands New Years Show
New Years plans in October? Considering you'll be
in a food coma from Turkey Day until Christmas
morning, and then the egg-nog hangover until at
least the 30th, its best you get scheduling in the
pre-season. That's just what Clap Your Hands
and Say Yeah have planned. The band announced
a one off New Years Eve show at Hammerstein Ballroom
in New York City. Presale tickets are up for
grabs for the select few who adore the band enough
to stalk them. The John Q taxpayer, though,
will have to wait until Friday morning at 11:00 EST
to get their hands on the event.
The band has not announced who they will be
sharing the bill with yet but we'll keep you posted.
In the meantime, the group is wrapping up their
fall tour out West while also announcing they have
finished work on their long overdue 2nd album.
The release of which is not set until after the new
year.

Part Built to Spill and equal remains The Band
and Shins, Los Angeles based Gertie Fox is all rock
eletronica. The laid back pop outfit is
restful in tone at times but never in action as they
are constantly touring the West Coast and parts of
the Midwest and Atlantic with their 60's influenced
sound and optimistic melodies.

God bless technology and those who chose to use
it for the good of purveying music. Sure those
old 45's are choice in sound but now we have a
catalogue of out of print material thanks to
Anthology Recordings. The company has launched
a site that will allow customers to download entire
albums of previously out of print and discontinued
material. They will be leasing their goods to
the likes of iTunes, Emusic, and more.
Founded in 2006, the company is now offering
Parson Sound, China Shop, The Suicide Commandos and
more and plan on adding more each week.
While they would be the first to admitt that this
in no way takes the place of crate digging in your
favorite mold-smelling wax store, it does offer a
new resource to replace those hard-to-finds.
Laid back is how they like it and the tour
continues the same way. Judah Johnson's
complex electric pop is on the road and proving that
the studio ain't got nothing on their synth sound as
they continue to turn heads with their live
performances. They recently just finished up
their first US tour with Huskey Rescue but now they
are ready to tackle the East Coast which includes a
CMJ Music Conference in November. Judah Johnson
continues to trek across the country with their
strong space pop roots.

God knows 'Holla Back' needs to back away.
And thankfully, it will soon be replaced by even
more addicting beats by Gwen Stefani. That's
right, the better half of Gavin is currently working
on a new album slated for a December 4th release
this year. The album still has no title.
No set details are really available as her camp
is keeping pretty mum but we can tell you that
Pharrell Williams has been working very closely with
Gweni-Gwen-Gwen on the tracks. She reported to
MTV earlier that many of the songs have his touch
but some songs are carried over from extra material
off of 2004's Love Angel Music Baby.

One of our favorite up and coming acts, Cold War
Kids recently got the cold shoulder by Futureheads
when they were left out in the cold as the band
canceled their tour abruptly. So what do you

Cold War Kids are hitting the road with equally
impressive Foreign Born who we saw earlier in the
year - so we can call them that.
As previously reported, the band is also readying
the release of their Downtown Records debut
Robbers & Cowards on October 10th. For

"He's only like the next Martin Scorsees." Wait,
he is the Martin Scorsees! Legendary rock outfit The
Rolling Stones are getting the royal treatment by
equally legendary film director Martin Scorsese.
The director is currently in the works with the band
on a documentary about the band that will feature
the upcoming New York gigs on October 29th and 31st.
You can thank us later for using a younger photo
of the band.
Although he has not confirmed the content or
storyline of the project, it is safe to say it will
be a retrospective piece on the bands influence on
today's rock scene dating back to its conception.
If you'll recall, Martin also worked on the award
winning documentary on Bob Dylan No Direction
Home.
Dosh
New Album Info
Martin Dosh is no longer the lone loop master.
Instead, he's grown into a band structure for his
fourth and upcoming release, The Lost Take -
available on October 17th. True to form, the
artist has his raw instrumental sound but now he's
backed by guitars, sax bass, violin and more.
That's not all, we actually get to hear Dosh's voice
for the first time as he cuts along side Andrew Bird
on several tracks.
In a nutshell, Dosh manipulates tempos and
samples of other instrumentations to create a
layered and addicting sequential sound that is
equally mind blowing and physically undefinable.

Serengeti
Who names their album after Brian Dennehy?
A Cocoon fan, that's who! While we have no idea if
that's the case here, but Chicago native Serengeti
and his MF Doom style hooks are catching the
attention of many in the Midwest as an up and coming
act to watch. Equally witty and bizarre, and
always unique, Serengeti takes a side-step approach
to daily life and the hip-hop culture to produce
some infectious grooves.

Timbersticks vocalist Stuart A. Staples is
heading out on the road for a very rare US solo
appearance with a full 5-piece band including the
likes of Neil Fraser and David Boulter (both of
which are from Tindersticks as well). While
hardly a solo tour when you think about the fact
that he is working with many of his past bandmates,
its still a jewel to catch him live. Don't
believe us? See the video below a show in France

For those of you unfamiliar with Staples work, he

oddly uplifting punkish beats.

MySpace
Takes On iTunes
In yet another David vs. Goliath moment in
digital music 'My Balls Are Bigger Than Yours'
landscape, indie music aficionados at MySpace have
announced a plan to sell unsigned music acts; some
estimated 3 million songs, digitally online in an
attempt to garner part of the 70% market share
currently held by Apple and its iTunes mantra.
MySpace co-founder Chris DeWolfe told Reuters:
"The goal is to be one of the biggest digital
music stores out there. Everyone we've spoken to
definitely wants an alternative to iTunes and the
iPod. MySpace could be that alternative."
In a twist, the band decides the sales fee of the
song after a markup from MySpace fees. The
material will not be copywritten allowing it to go
to almost any mp3 player on the market - including
the infamous iPod.
DJ
Shadow: Pimp My Video
One of the greatest DJ's turned up-and-coming
producer DJ Shadow is turning to his fans to help
make a video for his upcoming single 'This Time'.
Fans must submit the entries to
DJShadowVideo.com no
later than October 20th to have a fighting chance to
catch the DJ's eye. Did we mention he will be
judging the material himself? No Simon here, fools.
On the site, the criteria is listed as free form:
"Entries can take the form of animations,
offcuts, brief sketches, film scenes,
caught-on-camera clips, out-takes, voiceovers,
random footage, whether humorous, dark, edgy,
juvenile, insightful or thought-provoking.
"It is not necessarily about who can create the
slickest, most professional work. It is really more
about the execution of simple ideas, however
bizarre, dark, funny, ingenious or off the wall. The
nature and content of the submission is entirely up
to the user."

Video: Sufjan
Stevens New Material
Sufjan Stevens continues to amaze us as the
quintessential work horse in the music industry.
In his recent New York show at Town Hall Sunday
night, the artist unveiled a new ten minute song.
No word yet on the exact title but we'll know soon
enough.
The finale was much loved by fans - most of which
were there for all three nights in New York. Stevens
himself played in a winged costume for the set along
with a 14-piece backup band dressed in butterfly
wings. As if to help promote his upcoming
Christmas Box Set, inflatable Santas were tossed out
into the crowd. Even the man of steel himself
made an appearance when Superman inflatables were
thrown about during a set that included 'The Man of
Metropolis Steals Our Heart.

The US knows how to jack the consumer. Jake
Shears of Scissor Sisters fame has created quite a
beef with the Trans World corporation. The
group, which consists of some 800 plus music chains
including Sam Goody, FYE, and Coconuts pulled the
Scissor Sisters latest release Ta-Dah from store
shelves after singer Shears argued that the prices
of the albums they sold were too high.
The beef
began when Shears, durring a set at the National
Association of Recording Merchandisers convention
sang "I have a little F.Y.I / Your CD prices are too
high."
Well, needless to say, that didn't settle
well with all the merchants in the crowd and so the
company pulled the bands new release from the
shelves.
Tah-Dah sells for an average of $28 in
these chains.
Mojave 3 continues to garner attention for their
infectious rock/pop sounds. Now famed (or
infamous - whomever you ask on any given day) Nic
Harcourt, host of the oft listened Morning Becomes
Eclectic at KCRW in LA will have the band perform
live in studio. You can check out a recap of
the show which took place earlier today by clicking
