Microsoft Courts CSS

Let the indie-go-money approach commence!  Microsoft, in a bid to take a bite out of Apples mp3 player dominance is courting indie bands to help aid its upcoming release of Zune - their mp3 player.

A few months back we dropped some questions to Sub Pop after Microsoft released press photos of their mp3 player with Band Of Horses on the screen but never really got a firm answer out of the label except that they were working with MS to have pre-programmed music ready for it's release.  Now, Microsoft is reportedly funding the tour for CSS - or Cansei de Ser Sexy.  Along with Band of Horses, CSS and Hot Chip will have pre-loaded music on the Zune.

UK Changes Charts

Starting next year, The UK Charts will start to include all digital sales - regardless of album or single placement.  So, if a song is just a song and does not have a home on an album nor single it will still count and be placed toward the Combined Singles Chart in the UK.

This is a huge step in graphing the increasing success of the digital format for bands both signed and unsigned.

The rules for classifying a Maxi Single have altered a bit as well.  Previously, a Maxi had to be shorter than 20 minutes or 3 songs max.  Now the here so track rule and the time has been extended to 25 minutes.

Capdown Returns

December 4th will mark the day that Capdown return to the music scene after a long hiatus with a new single care of Fierce Panda label.

Over the past two years, the band has supposedly worked on their new album Wind Up Toys but still there is no release date for the actual end result as the band is still hard at work on putting the (hopefully) final touches on.

The single 'Keeping Up Appearances' will be available on 7" and download.

Scots New Festival Announced

...and I thought that Lollapalooza was good enough for me as a annual event.  No so any longer; we need more festivals - especially in the long winter months.

Apparently Scotland thinks so too.  The organizers of the original 'T in the Park' Festival are launching a new festival to take place in Scotland next year. The festival, titled 'Connect' will be held on the grounds of Inveraray Castle and cover two days: September 1st and 2nd in Argyll.

DF Concerts, those guys behind T in the Park say that the event will hold some 20,000 attendees.  Although no line-ups or ticket costs have been confirmed, you can still register to find out more at connectmusicfestival.com

Video: Scissor Sisters 'Land of a Thousand Words'

Elton John's wicked twins The Scissor Sisters continue to hit the visual notes well as they bring their dance disco pop to the mainstream.  Most recent, the group shot a video for their single 'Land of A Thousand Words'; an introspective number that is less boppy and more reflective.
