Hear that knock on your door? That's the 2.5
knockin' on your door to detain you for downloading
The Shin's new album Wincing The Night Away
illegally - some two months before the intended
street date of January 23rd.
Hark? You did not and you are a true purveyor of
all that is musically challenged? Then Sub Pop
hears your outcry and so do we. That's why
we're giving you the first single 'Phantom Limb'
(legally we might add) for your love and devotion
while your kid brother shares it with everyone else
in Kazza land. Of course, those who spent 99˘
on the iTunes version last week are screaming "foul"
and not at your dip-shit brother. Where are
your priorities?
When he's not punching the paparazzi he's singin'.
The lead for Babyshambles, Pete Doherty, has
released the new video for the bands upcoming new
single 'The Blinding'. It's quite the rockin' tune.
Babyshambles are also readying their EP The
Blinding for a December 4th release that
apparently is being called a 'return to form'.
As for us, we never thought they lost form.
Let's just hope the Michael Keaton 'Clean and Sober'
Doherty is as cohesive with his music talent as he
was loaded. Most of the new material is
definately reflective of recent events. Beg,
Steal or Borrow' is apparetnly about the tabloids
that have agressively followed Pete for the past
year. Says Bassist Drew McConnell in a recent
NME interview:
"I think it's about the vacuous nature of
tabloid newspaper attention. No matter how
intelligent and strong you think you are, it still
affects you."
Track List:
01 Blinding
02 Love You But You're Green
03 I Wish
04 Beg, Steal or Borrow
05 Sedative
If you were part of the sweat masses last year at
Coachella, you know that it don't matter how hot you
are. All that matters is the music. Well
get your gear and tickets ready because the
California dessert event has announced its annual
dates for the 2007 event.
This year, however, the event will span three
days; April 27th thru the 29th. Not into the
indie go crossover scene? How about Country?
Coachella promoters Goldenvoice are also working on
a similar event to be held on May 5th and 6th in the
Empire Polo Fields of California. Artists
included are Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Willie
Nelson, and an ass load more.
We'll keep you posted on the Coachella lineup
when it is finally announced.
Gay is gay. Straight is straight. And Scissors
Sisters are trying the crossover thing to make it a
trifecta. Female vocalist for the group, Ana
Matronic is trying her hand at acting on the number
one soap opera Passions in the US.
And in the spirit of The Bait Shop and bagels
with the Cohens, Scissor Sisters will also play two
songs on the show reportedly 'I Don't Feel Like
Dancin' and 'Land Of A Thousand Words'.
The Futureheads have performed their own Boston
Tea Party on British label 679 - also a division of
Warner Brothers overseas. Although there is surely
distaste over the transaction, the band isn't saying
much except that they are happy it's behind them.
The band is currently shopping around for a label
presumably once they hit the studios again to record
their recently released News and Tributes - which
saw Vagrant Records as the label of choice in the
US.
Even if the newly reunited Smashing Pumpkins are
short some band members; since its only a two man
(official) operation thus far with Billy Corgan and
Jimmy Chamberlain - one thing the new album won't be
short on is guitars. In a recent MySpace post
(yes, even the reunited Smashing Pumpkins have a
MySpace page), Corgan admits to an 8 guitar track.
"Eight guitars
resonating in one big harmonic handshake!" Jimmy
Chamberlain wrote. "And the drums ? of course! Yes,
things are sounding great my friends."
Other than these small
tidbits of info, mums is the word minus some of the
other details we broke last month.
How do you get all those studio kinks out of your
system after being couped up recording an album for
months? You hit the road and play some new shit!
The New York indie 80's freebasers The Bravery are
doing just that after putting the finishing touches
on the their upcoming album The Sun and the Moon.

Our hopes and individual prayers go out to Matt
and his family as he recovers.
Evan Dando is back in the US after a short UK
jaunt supporting his
eight album (first in almost ten years) with the
help of Vess Ruhtenberg on bass and Devon Ashley on
drums - none of which were in the studio with the
artist or a part of the self titled release.
As part of his celebratory return, Dando appeared
on NPR's World Cafe and laid down a sweet little
acoustic performance and quip interview about the
band and the man. You can listen to it by
clicking
here.

The less than youthful
Sonic Youth may be parting ways still with Geffen
Records - their long time home. But what a bow
they are ready to deliver. As previously
reported, the band has helped compile a set of
b-sides and previously unreleased material for their
upcoming compilation - most likely to only fulfill
their current contract with Geffen.
You read this crap last
month? Right you are! But you didn't listen to it,
fool! That's right, we have a stream of the
album for your auditory orgasmic pleasure.

Just as their name suggests, the artist Pink
Nasty is anything but standard fare indie music.
The singer-songwriter is rightfully offbeat and and
flighty - especially in comparison to her brother's
more dirty tone under the mantra Black Nasty.
We don't make this shit up, folks.
The twang filled lyrics mold country born rock
with ballad like indie undercurrents that teeter
power-pop and bizarre. Will Oldham appears on the
much loved 'Don't Ever Change' track sampled below
in its entirety which also appears on her album
Mold The Gold.
Sitting on a Presidential sit-out for the past
four years, the much underplayed Explosions in the
Sky (EITS) are readying their first new studio album
entitled All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone on
February 20th of next year. You may know the group
from their Friday Night Lights soundtrack with the
heart thumping musical scores. If not, ABC
does a good job of remixing it every week on their
based-on series.
The band worked in the studio with John Congleton
of Roots and Mountain Goats fame in Minnesota and
are said to have made vast leaps with instrumental
performances and much more focused.
For those who support their indie shops (as you
should), you will be rewarded with an independent
retailer only bonus album which includes remixes by
Four Tet, Jesu, The Paper Chase, Adem, and Mountains
and Eluvium.
Track List:
01 The Birth and Death of the Day

The suburbs of London
have a sweet little secret that for some reason -
only the hippest know. So hip, in fact that
his singles are considered a rarity. Maps has
released three sought after and sold out 10" singles
on his own label Las Space Recordings for the past
year but still the labels are standing back.
Fortunately, Maps isn't.
The artist is compiling
all three singles releases and even adding a new
song for a wide release CD outside of the UK; the
Start Something EP. Essentially James Chapman,
Maps is always rotating a backup of four artists in
live events but the studio album is pure Chapman
bliss. Check out our selection off his first
single, 'Lost My Soul'.
Erroneous! That's what has been yelled across
desks today as we continuously await the new Thrills
album. But the production time has been equal
to that of Ron Kovic's tinkle tube - awkward and
long. But word out of the Thrills camp is that
they are now working on a few new songs for the
album.
Conor continues to baffle us with new material at
every turn. As previously reported, the band
was to be done in August and go into post production
thru the New Year. But, it seems that he can't
turn the creative juices off.
The band is also contributing a new song to The
Cake Sale album - a charitable effort that should
see light early next year.
