The Shins
Congress Theatre - Chicago
February 10th 2007

Simplicity may be bliss and while their stage set up mimicked that of a dorm room with tripped out lighting and effects, the music of The Shins was anything but.  They roared through quick sets but played with astonishing brilliance thru songs like ‘Phantom Limb’ and the funk fest of ‘Sea Legs.’ While still supplying the love of what made them popular with choice tracks off of Chutes, the band stuck close to the prog-fence of their latest effort Wincing The Night Away and with solid propensity – despite our negative beliefs that they could pull it off live. It made us appreciate the albums foundation that much more and how far they have come between albums.  Unlikely show.
